SKAM: Even Næsheim – Type 4w3

Type
4s are creative, self-absorbed, sensitive, romantic and withdrawn. Type 4s have
a strong desire to be unique, which is often expressed through their creativity
and they have a core fear of being insignificant. At their best, they can be
self-aware, inspired and highly creative, and at their worst, they can be
temperamental, dramatic and over-sensitive.

Note:
Even was extremely hard to type because of his bipolar, sometimes he may appear
as a 7 as he is very impulsive in his manic states, and his depressive states
can seem more 4. However, I settled on 4 because I think he fits a lot of the
criteria, and he doesn’t compromise his personality for anyone else.

When
he was first introduced into the show, Even was mysterious and charming, as 4s
can often appear, especially if 4s have a 3 wing as it can make them very image
focused. Additionally, as the show progresses we can see that he is very
vulnerable and sensitive which are also traits of a 4.

4s
are very invested in their romantic relationships, and we can see this through
his relationship with Isak. Even is smitten with Isak from the first moment he
sees him and he is eager to learn more about him. He even joins kosegruppa
so that he can spend more time with Isak. In the relationship, he values Isak’s
feelings, sometimes more than his own. For example, when Isak tells him that he
can’t be around mentally ill people as it overwhelms him, he closes off and
decides that it would be better for him to distance himself, even though he
loves Isak so much.

At
his worst, he is depressive and is on the verge of committing suicide when his
relationship with Isak fails. He also becomes very withdrawn and doesn’t
express his feelings to Isak, instead he avoids him, yet continues to send him
messages. However, as previously noted, this is more brought on because of his bipolar.

At
his best, he is content with himself and his relationship with Isak. He begins
to be happier and more accepting of everyone. He also channels his creativity
into positive outlets. Isak and Even help each other become more comfortable
with themselves and grow as characters.

SKAM: Isak Valtersen – Type 9w8

Type 9s are known as the Peacemakers and are friendly, kind and indecisive. Type 9s have the basic desire to be comfortable and a fear of separation and being at conflict with others

Isak is very influenced by what others think and like, as we can see in his relationship with Even. For example, Even says that one of his favourite rappers is Nas, and Isak listens to him because of this and really likes him. Later in the episode we see Isak tell Emma that she should listen to better music like Nas, all because of Even.

At his best, he is happy with himself and in a stable relationship with Even. He feels comfortable in all his relationships and becomes more open and has a much more positive outlook on life. He begins to stop caring about what other’s think, and is happily with Even in public. He also begins to express his own opinions and find his own identity.

At his worst, he is hiding himself and his true feelings towards everyone in his life. He is constantly lying to Jonas, Emma and his other friends, as he doesn’t want to be rejected. He always conforms to other people’s opinions and is not direct in his relationships, leading to problems with his friends.

Isak is finding himself throughout the season and struggling with his sexuality. He is really worried about what other people will think about him being gay, especially Jonas and his friends. However, Jonas surprises him by being very supportive, which helps him to become more confident in himself and his identity.

Isak shows his wing 8 as he is generally not concerned with doing the right thing, and not as perfectionistic. He is very withdrawn as 9s are, however he shows his anger more than a wing 1 does. For example, he punches Mikael for talking to Even out of jealousy. Isak bears a lot of similarities to Eva in that they are both dependent on their relationships to help shape their identities, however Isak is generally more aggressive than Eva.
